In the north eastern state of West Bengal, about 60 kilometres from Kalimpong, H.H. Karmapa has acquired land with an approximate area of 5 hectares. On this property many projects will be developed; these will include the new residence of the Karmapa, a monastery, several schools and medical institution. |

With the construction of this new seat, under the direction of the Karmapa, the educational system for the next generation of young people in India will be restructured. The new teaching system provides a clear division of the elementary and secondary schools; girls and boys will be taught together and the general education curriculum will be based more closely on the state educational system. The children should start their education at the age of 6-7 years at an elementary School and are to be taught there up to class 6. After which they will continue at a secondary school up to class 12. Following a successful completion of secondary school students may continue their education at a classical Buddhist Shedra in order to study logic, theory of knowledge, philosophy and languages for another 6-8 years. |

The Tilopa Institute changes to the Karmapa Indo-Tibetology School the K.I.T.S. In order to achieve this new, multistage education concept, the required strength and resources need to be gathered together. Therefore, it is planned that the former education program at the Tilopa Institute, - which was situated in remote Himachal Pradesh (about 1800 km from Kalimpong; which in India corresponds of a 2-day long train journey), - will be moved to the new area in order to guarantee a close cooperation between the schools. At the request of Shamar Rinpoche and H.H. Karmapa it will be the task of the Tilopa Institute team to establish an "Elementary School" for boys and girls. |

In order to avoid any confusion regarding the two projects, the new educational project will be continued under the name „Karmapa Indo-Tibetology School“ (in short K.I.T.S.). Which content-related changes will occur at K.I.T.S.? |
